I was speechless when I saw the information about the names we found. For years, no one knew what exactly happened to that man. They had no leads on his case. But we had some evidence on who could have possibly been behind Mr. Brown’s death. I knew we weren’t allowed to work on cases where we knew the individuals personally, but I didn’t trust anyone to get answers the way I wanted them to. Most times, they could prolong or even ignore a case this old, but I wasn’t going to stop until I made sure the person who killed him was placed behind bars.

I received a call saying someone had broken into my house and that I needed to get there soon. I jumped out of my seat so fast, and Dennis was right on my heels. I didn’t want to be around him right now. He was such a distraction from the things I needed to focus on. I needed answers for this case, I needed to know who the hell broke into my house, and worst of all, I needed to know how the hell I was going to continue this case without losing my job.

“This is a personal matter. I can handle this alone.”

“No, I’ll ride with you.”

I didn’t even argue with him. I had way too much on my mind to even try to put up a fight. I arrived to my house, and when I walked inside I couldn’t believe my eyes. I was so speechless; there was glass everywhere. There was spray paint on my wall with the words “BITCH” all over the place. I continued to go through the house, and I found a note:
